The company’s newest VivoBook models, the VivoBook 14 and VivoBook 15 were just released in India. The 14-inch Ultrabook is the world’s smallest and most colorful, according to HP. This unusual and narrowly defined title is held by a small number of people. To achieve the Rs 49,990 starting price, the new laptop series focuses on compactness and mid-range performance.

Intel’s 8th Generation Core i3 CPUs are also available at this low price. The Acer Aspire 3 (A315-53-317G) is one such laptop, which has an MSRP of Rs. 36,000 but regularly sells for less than Rs. 30,000. As a result, it is one of the most affordable laptops in India equipped with an 8th generation Intel Core i3 processor.

We’ll see how well these laptops perform for a price of around Rs. 30,000.

Acer Aspire 3 vs Asus Vivobook 14: Detailed Analysis

Design

Acer Aspire 3

The VivoBook 14’s plastic body is of high quality and solid construction. There was no flex in the chassis, keyboard, or lid. The gleaming Peacock Blue trim is irresistible. The color changes from purple to blue depending on the lighting. The Asus VivoBook 14 comes in Slate Grey and Transparent Silver.

When comes to the Acer Aspire 3, has a standard build quality and design for a laptop at this price point. Despite the fact that it is only available in black and that the entire outer chassis is made of plastic, it has a solid feel to it and does not appear cheap. The single hinge provides good lid torsion when using a laptop in a moving vehicle, reducing the risk of the laptop wobbling. The lid of the laptop can also be tipped backward 180 degrees, giving you a variety of ways to use it.

The Acer Aspire 3 laptop’s 15.6-inch screen has a full-HD resolution (1080×1920). The vertical and horizontal viewing angles have a limited range, which is to be expected from a standard LCD panel. When viewed off-axis, the display’s brightness, and color shift noticeably. Thick borders around the screen aren’t a big deal at this price.

Software

The Aspire 3 is powered by a 2.2GHz dual-core Intel Core i3-8130U CPU with HyperThreading. This new 8th generation CPU has Turbo-Boost, which can dynamically boost the frequency up to 3.4 GHz when compared to its direct predecessor, the Core i3-7130U. Because this is a low-cost laptop, we’ll have to make do with the Intel UHD 620 integrated GPU.

The standard features on this laptop include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, a VGA webcam, and a 1TB mechanical hard drive. By opening one of the bottom panels, you can gain access to a free RAM slot. The pre-installed 4GB RAM module appears to be soldered on, according to the diagnostic tool CPUz.

The VivoBook 14 has two Intel processor options, the first of which comes with either an I3 or an I5. The Asus Vivobook 14 X412FA we tested featured an Intel Core i5-8265U 8th generation quad-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. Although the VivoBook 14 comes with an optional 1TB hard drive in some markets, Asus confirmed to Gadgets 360 that these models, as well as those with Core i3 CPUs, will not be available in India. The Nvidia GeForce MX230 graphics card is currently on sale here.

The 8GB of system memory reported is made up of 4GB of soldered RAM and a 4GB RAM module (according to the CPUz app). You can increase the total system RAM to 12GB by swapping an 8GB module into the only available slot. The Asus VivoBook 14 comes with dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2.

Performance

Asus Vivobook 14

Despite the lack of an SSD, overall Windows performance is better than expected. Although it still takes a long time to get into Windows, once there, it is usable. When switching between apps, opening programs, and even opening menus in the Windows UI, there is some lag.

Many of these issues could be resolved by adding more RAM. You won’t hear the Aspire 3’s exhaust fan when it’s idle unless you’re encoding a video or playing a demanding 3D game.

The Aspire 3 isn’t a particularly good laptop for watching movies. Despite its ability to play high-resolution video files, it lacks a vibrant color palette. Viewing angles in animated films were so narrow that they failed to hold our attention.

The Asus Vivobook 14 is an excellent laptop for business travelers. Aside from its small size and lightweight, the SSD makes it easy to wake up Windows from sleep mode when necessary. We appreciate the fingerprint sensor’s convenience.

Despite the HD camera’s impressive indoor performance, our footage was grainy, even in low light. Regardless, the laptop’s ergonomic keyboard is what truly distinguishes it from the competition. Backlighting is simple to turn on and off, keys aren’t too loud, and the trackpad is large enough that we didn’t have to worry about unwanted touches while typing.

Acer Aspire 3 vs Asus Vivobook 14: Final Verdict

The Acer Aspire 3 (A315-53-317G) is currently available on Amazon for as little as Rs. 28,490. At this price, you get a recent Intel processor, good build quality, a full HD display, a comfortable keyboard, and enough battery life for non-intensive tasks. Acer also provides easy access to the RAM and hard drive, which is unusual in this market segment.

The Asus VivoBook 14, on the other hand, hits the sweet spot in terms of features and performance for the price. The model we reviewed has an official selling price (MOP) of Rs. 54990, but this varies slightly with offers and during sales, resulting in a lower MOP of Rs. 48990. At this online price, a 14-inch laptop with these specifications is difficult to find. An excellent work laptop combines high-quality build quality, a modern design, and small size.
