Garmin Epix Gen 2 VS Garmin Fenix 7: Detailed Analysis

Build And Design

Garmin Epix Gen 2

Garmin Epix Gen 2 has a great design which provides a great look to the one who wears it, It’s built with premium materials such as a sapphire display, Titanium bezel, or stainless steel bezel which is an addition to its look. The body contains a total of 5 buttons which provides you full control of the watch, but they’re mostly unnecessary as it also has a touch screen and you can operate and control the watch with just a touch. The wrist band is made of rubber but apart from that, some alternatives can come in handy as a wrist band.

Garmin Fenix 7 also has a great design similar to the Garmin Epix Gen 2, built with a sapphire display combined with high transparency solar panels and the narrow bezel design maximizes the light absorption surface. The button count and placement are the same as Garmin Epix Gen 2, and these buttons help you to operate the watch but it still is of less use in front of the touch screen of the watch. It also comes with a built-in flashlight which is capable of flashing bright white light, a red light, and an SOS signal flash.

Display

Talking about the Garmin Epix Gen 2, it comes with a sapphire display screen with an additional AMOLED display which is a huge upgrade for a smartwatch to have. The display is bright and the contrast is perfect, you can clearly see and operate the screen outdoors in broad daylight which is impressive as some smartphones are still unable to do so.

On the other hand, Garmin Fenix 7 also has a sapphire display screen but doesn’t have an AMOLED display but it still makes its place with the transparent solar panels which can charge itself in the sunlight. It doesn’t have a bright display compared to the Garmin Epix Gen 2, and the contrast is also not close enough but the advantage of this model is that it has an anti-glare screen which can be seen by flashing it in a light source.

tracking and the Sports feature which provides high accuracy GPS, GLONASS and Galileo compass, an Altimeter which shows the height level of the terrain you are on and a Thermometer. The great
addition to their features is that they are always-on. Now only focusing on the navigations of these devices, both these watches are pre-loaded with several maps and mal categories such as road maps, terrain maps, and even ski maps, such detailed maps are rare features provided by both of these Garmin smartwatches.

Battery

Garmin Epix Gen 2 has a great battery life of 16 Days in ‘smart-watch’ mode and (6 days in ‘always-on’ mode) up to 75 hours with GPS on (30 hours on ‘always-on’ mode) with a full charge. It takes about
1 hour and 44 minutes to fully charge itself which is a bit slow as compared to the 300mAh Battery, but it is your travel partner as you don’t have to worry much about charging it.

But Garmin Fenix 7 has a battery life of 2 weeks with all the features on, and with the solar charge it can last up to 18 days with a full charge, and if used in only ‘Smart-watch’ mode it can also last up to 22 days. It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge itself.
