Google Pixel Slate Vs Pixelbook Go: Which Is Better?

Following the release of Google’s own high-end Chromebook, the Pixel Slate marks the company’s next chapter in Chrome OS. The Pixel Slate is a 12.3-inch tablet with an optional $199 keyboard that costs $599.

To address this issue, Chrome OS has added new tactics such as natural writing recognition and Android-inspired UI features. The Pixel Slate also has a lovely screen and good audio. Despite the fact that Chrome OS is expanding, some Android apps still don’t look right, and the Pixel Slate has a few issues that we hope will be resolved soon.

In contrast, Google’s new Pixelbook Go is the best Chromebook for those who cannot afford Google’s Pixelbook. Only the long battery life and excellent keyboard are two of this Chromebook’s many selling points; average users and die-hard Google and Chrome OS fans will have little to complain about.

Although a Surface Pro 6 or an excellent ultraportable laptop are more expensive, Chrome OS’s built-in security makes it a device we can only recommend to those willing to take a risk. If Google can address these concerns, this tablet could be ready for the general public.

The new Google Pixelbook Go has made the company’s previously expensive product line more affordable to consumers. Users on a tight budget who are unable to afford the Google Pixelbook may be interested in this new addition to the portfolio.

However, some concessions must be made in order to keep the pricing reasonable. Google’s Pixelbook Go lacks more premium features such as biometric authentication. Furthermore, it is not the most affordable Chromebook on the market.’ As a result, while its base configuration is inexpensive, as you move up the specs ladder, it becomes more expensive, making it less of a good deal overall.

The Cost And Availability

While the Google Pixel Slate starts at $599 and includes an Intel Celeron CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, we tested the $999 model, which includes an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The $199 Pixel Slate Keyboard and $99 Pixelbook Pen are essential accessories for those who prefer to write and sketch by hand.

The Google Pixelbook, on the other hand, To be fair, Google charges a lot for the less expensive flagship Chromebook right away: $649 (£629, around AU$950) for 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, as well as an 8th-generation Intel Core m3 processor (CPU) and Full HD (1080p) LCD touchscreen. The remaining fees are broken down below.

Design and Build Quality

Google Pixel Slate

The rich Midnight Blue colour of the Google Pixel Slate is elegant and sleek, and it blends in perfectly with a modern office. Furthermore, the anodized aluminium chassis provides a solid, long-lasting feel. The Pixel Slate has slightly thicker bezels than the new iPad Pros, but the black bars aren’t large enough to make it appear dated.

The Pixel Slate (without a keyboard) is thicker and heavier than the 2018 12.9-inch iPad Pro despite being thinner and lighter than the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and Samsung Galaxy Book 2 (both 1.8 pounds and 0.3 inches thick) (1.4 pounds, 0.2 inches).

With the keyboard attached, the Pixel Slate’s weight increases to 2.9 pounds and its thickness increase to 0.6 inches, making it less portable. The Surface Pro 6 and Galaxy Book 2 weigh less than half as much as the Pixelbook (2.5 pounds, 0.4 inches thick) even with the keyboard dock.

The Google Pixelbook Go, on the other hand, is designed to be light and thin, measuring only 0.5 inches thick and weighing only 2.3 pounds. The laptop, known as “Just Black” or “Not Pink,” is only available in black and pink. We’d prefer a white or straight anodized magnesium alternative, but that’s also out of the question at the moment.

According to Google, the matte feel of the magnesium alloy and the rippling base make this laptop much easier to carry and move between meetings and work areas. The frame of this Chromebook is quite durable, which is unusual for Chromebooks. Google makes full use of every square inch of that frame.

The Pixelbook Go has top-firing speakers in addition to a well-spaced keyboard. Even though the speakers are small and have a tinny high end, they outperform the vast majority of laptops of this size, which typically have bottom-firing speakers, in every other way.

Google Pixel Slate Compatibility

Pixelbook Go

Allow the Pixel Slate to teach you about USB Type-C connections. Unlike the new iPad Pros, which are limited to onboard storage, the Pixel Slate can be used in a traditional office setting rather than being cloud-only. Despite the fact that the Surface Pro 6, which requires an additional $80 Type-C adaptor, is faster, neither laptop can compete with the Surface Pro 6.

Despite this, the Pixel Slate’s external device support appears to crash and reboot, with the screen briefly going dark before launching a blank Chrome tab after loading large, multi-gigabyte files to the tablet. Everything else about the file transfer goes smoothly.

The Pixel Slate and Pixel Slate Keyboard are linked by Google’s Pogo port. Because the Pixel Slate lacks a headphone jack, Google includes a Type-C to 3.5-millimetre audio converter.

Display

The Pixel Slate’s 12.3-inch screen reproduces colours and details beautifully. While watching a remastered version of the 1977 film “Suspiria,” I was surprised by how well-represented both the dancing academy’s facade and Suzy Bannion were, as well as how well-represented powerful vivid green colours were used in the school’s lobby. There are also numerous minute details in the textured blue velvet walls of the Slate’s 3,000-by-2,000-pixel panel, as well as smaller ripples in the pool.

The display on the Google Pixelbook Display is where you’ll spend the majority of your time when using the laptop. Except for the most expensive model, we found the Pixelbook Go’s 1080p touchscreen to display colours with the richness and precision we expect from high-end laptops. The most legible scaling results in an effective 1,600 x 900 resolution, reducing the impact of Chrome OS’s 1080p status. We wish Chrome OS could display in its original resolution without scaling.

We’d feel more at ease editing photos on this laptop’s screen than on most Chromebooks. Even though we haven’t seen it in person, we believe the Chromebook’s 4K Molecular Display option is completely unnecessary. The Google Pixelbook Go has a 1080p front-facing camera that shoots video at 60 frames per second, which Apple only recently added to its 2021 MacBook Pro launches, the 14-inch and 16-inch models. This laptop will make you look better than most other people in video conferences if you have a good internet connection.

Operating System and Software

When compared to the Pixelbook, the Pixel Slate demonstrates that Google’s Android experience is superior on a touch-based tablet. With a single tap of the time bubble, you can now access a redesigned settings and notifications panel. It now resembles the Pixel phone’s pull-down menu for settings and notifications.

Chromebooks, such as the Google Pixelbook Go, typically come pre-installed with a fresh copy of Chrome OS. It’s also worth noting that this Chromebook lacks any software or capabilities that other Chromebooks don’t already have.

Although Google Assistant is convenient, it is not a distinguishing feature when compared to the many other Chromebooks on the market today.

In our opinion, the Chromebook’s crisp, 1080p webcam is its standout feature. It’s even rarer on Chromebooks than it is on some of the most expensive computers on the market.

Google’s on-screen keyboard is my favourite new feature of Chrome OS. Don’t ignore the little squiggle at the top of the on-screen keyboard in tablet mode: touching it activates handwriting mode, allowing you to type by drawing (or doodling) letters with your finger or stylus. It was fascinating to see how quickly it could transform text on the fly.

I believe the Pixel Slate is an excellent laptop replacement because of its Type-C connector, which can be used with a variety of external devices. After plugging it into my home setup with a Type-C to USB 3.0 converter, the Slate recognized my external drives, Blue Yeti USB Microphone, and Audioengine 2+ speakers. Because the iPad Pro does not support external storage, you will be unable to use it if you have an external hard drive.

Performance

We used an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8200Y processor and 8GB of RAM to test the Google Pixel Slate, which is sufficient for most tasks. I saw no degradation in speed even with a 1080p YouTube video playing in the background and a dozen Chrome tabs open (including the Google Doc for this review, Gmail, and Giphy). The performance was consistent even with Twitter, 1Password, and Discord open in the background and Alt+Tab toggling between them.

The Pixel Slate scored 8,071 on the Geekbench 4 general performance test, which is lower than the premium laptop average of 12,792 but slightly higher than the Pixelbook’s 7,927. (Core i5-7Y57 with 8GB of RAM). The Surface Pro 6 from Microsoft received 13,761 points, while the iPad Pro (A12X Bionic chip with Neural Engine embedded M12 coprocessor) received 3,575 points. (Snapdragon 850 processor with 4GB RAM.)

The Pixelbook Go is a Chromebook, so don’t expect anything groundbreaking, especially with fanless Intel processors inside. The Core i5 Y-series is more than capable for basic tasks and even light photo editing, but we can’t speak to the performance of the entry-level Intel Core m3 model.”

The laptop is more than capable of handling Android games and 1080p video. This is beneficial to Google because its operating system does not support a wide range of truly demanding applications.

Google Pixel Slate vs Pixelbook Go: Final Verdict

The Google Pixel Slate’s screen, keypad, sound quality, and battery life are all excellent. There are some limitations to this machine, including some serious issues that Google must address as soon as possible. For the time being, Google Play apps will not feel like tablet apps unless they’ve been around for a while. But overall it is a good product to buy.

While talking about Pixelbook go, this is the best you can get for the money. You won’t be missing out on nearly as much as the average user if you use Chrome OS. It has everything you would need for your office or design work.
