Samsung Watch 5 Pro

This fall, we’re anticipating significant competition between the Google Pixel Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. The greatest Android smartwatch for the year will ultimately depend on which Wear OS performs better. Google has at last created and introduced its own in-house smartwatch with the Pixel Watch. But given that Samsung has been on the market for a while and has already introduced watches that run the most recent version of Wear OS, you may be wondering how the wearables from the two companies actually compare.

Unsurprisingly, the two watches feature certain similarities, but they also have some differences that may influence you to choose one over the other. It doesn’t matter if it’s the battery life, the style, and appearance, or the fitness monitoring features. Continue reading to learn more about these two wearables. From a visual perspective, it’s difficult to see ever confusing the Pixel Watch with the Galaxy Watch 5. The only similarity between the two might be that they are both rounded.

Design

Google Pixel Watch

The display on the front of the Galaxy Watch 5 from Samsung is completely flat, and the device’s two buttons are located on the right side of the casing.  The sapphire crystal covering on the screen, though, makes it incredibly strong and scratch-resistant. On the other hand, the Pixel Watch has a Gorilla Glass 5 surface created specifically for it, which has extremely sharp curves all the way around to produce a smooth rounded edge around the case. In addition to this, it only has two buttons: one in the center that may be used as a spinning crown and another button that can be clicked directly above the first one.

The fact that Samsung provides the Galaxy Watch 5 in two different sizes gives it a slight advantage. Both a 44mm and a 40mm variant are available, guaranteeing that Samsung provides watches for both people with large and small wrists. For those habituated to huge watches, the Pixel Watch’s 41mm size can seem a shade too little. Other than that, the waterproofing on both watches is comparable, providing resistance up to 50 meters/5ATM. Additionally, Samsung boasts a military-grade shock/impact-resistant rating and an IP68 water resistance certification. Cases come in a variety of colors and are built from various materials. The Google Watch comes in three colors: Champagne Gold, Matte Black, and Polished Silver, and it is made of 80% recyclable stainless steel. The Samsung watch is constructed of aluminum and is offered in both sizes Graphite (dark grey) and Silver.

Price And Availability

According to rumors, the Google Pixel Watch will cost between 24,000 and 30,000. The Google smartwatch appears to come in two sizes, but it’s not clear if there will be LTE versions as well. The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro release date may be on October 13, with pre-orders likely opening on October 6.  We might see the Pixel Watch as early as the final week of September, assuming it is revealed alongside the Pixel phones. This is simply speculation since Google hasn’t announced the cost or release date.

On August 26, 2022, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 was launched, with the 40mm Bluetooth model starting at INR 23,000. The price of the 40mm LTE model begins at INR 27,000. For the 44mm Bluetooth and LTE variants, the cost increases to INR 28,000. The new “rugged” Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro sells for INR 37,000 with Bluetooth and INR 41,000 with LTE. There is only one 45mm size available.

Variation

The 41mm Pixel Watch is only available in one size. In contrast, the Galaxy Watch 5 has two sizes: 44mm and 40mm. Each wearable also comes in a variety of color options, with the Google solution having fewer choices. The Pixel Watch is available in Matte Black stainless steel, Polished Silver stainless steel, and Champagne Gold stainless steel, with a range of strap styles and colors. The Galaxy Watch 5 is available in two sizes: small and large. The small size is available in graphite, pink, gold, and silver. The large size is available in graphite, sapphire, or silver.

Display

The exact dimensions and resolution of the watch’s display area haven’t been disclosed by Google. The Galaxy Watch has a sharper display than this device, with 320 pixels per inch, but otherwise, they are nearly identical. Given that both displays are AMOLED-based, you can expect superb contrast and brightness, deep blacks, and rich colors. You will also receive always-on functionality, allowing you to view the time whenever you wish during the day.

Both devices use Wear OS 3.5 as their operating system. That should not lead you to believe that they will all have the same appearance and behavior. As Samsung has applied its own layer over the Google platform, known as One UI, much like it does with its mobile phones, this implies that certain components, such as watch faces and default features, will be different.

Other distinctions include the use of the Bixby speech assistant for voice requests, the Samsung Pay service for contactless payments, and Samsung Health for tracking one’s health. Similar functionality will be available on Google’s Watch; however, Google’s own solutions will be used. That entails using Google Wallet for transactions and Google Assistant for voice commands. On the fitness front, Fitbit’s health and fitness tracking software will be included on the Pixel Watch, making it the first Wear OS watch to do so.

Battery

The Galaxy Watch 5 has a 410mAh battery and, based on our experience with it, can run for about 48 hours on a single charge. The Watch was worn by our tester for a run, a GPS-enabled walk, and a night of sleep monitoring, confirming that it has longer battery life. We can’t make any firm statements on the Pixel Watch’s battery life because we haven’t had a chance to test it yet. However, Google has stated that its wearable, which has a 294mAh lithium-ion battery, will last up to 24 hours with average use.

This means that anyone looking for a wearable with a long battery life should consider the Galaxy Watch 5, even if it appears that both smartwatches take about the same amount of time to charge to 50%, at about 30 minutes each.

Integration

One of the most notable aspects of the Pixel Watch is its compatibility with Fitbit, which, in accordance with the company, gives users access to the most precise heart readings, morning Sleep Scores, and fitness statistics. Fitbit’s 24-hour activity monitoring also records your fitness data and explains how you might move closer to your own fitness objectives. Although the Galaxy Watch 5 comes with Samsung Health, which can track your walks, it does not have the same level of integration as Fitbit.

Storage

Google Pixel Watch

The Google Pixel Watch does come with more RAM and storage than its South Korean competition. Users get 32GB of storage space and 2GB of RAM. The 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage that the Galaxy Watch models offer are excellent. If you enjoy keeping music offline, the Pixel Watch is a better choice. The Pixel Watch first appears to be the best choice for consumers seeking a Google-first experience. You receive pure Wear OS 3.5 along with approved Google apps, in contrast to the Samsung Galaxy Watch series. These include Google’s Find My Phone service, Maps, Home, Pay, Assistant, and YouTube Music. Notably, the Galaxy Watch series already works well with Google Assistant and will soon integrate Google Maps.

You can anticipate a comparable third-party app experience on Samsung and Google smartwatches due to Wear OS on all of them. In order to keep connected while moving about and without a phone, both services also come with LTE variants. Notably, the Pixel Watch powers its emergency SOS and international calling features using LTE intelligence. However, Samsung has a leg ahead on accident detection, which Google says will be available this winter for the Pixel Watch.

Fitbit’s software, referred to as “Fitbit health and fitness” by Google, is accountable for recording fitness activities. The essentials like sleep tracking, daily walking and distance counting, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen meters, and an ECG for heart health should be included in this suite. Additionally, a Fitbit Premium trial is offered, providing customers with access to additional health information as well as a variety of workouts and guided sessions. It’s a choice that ought to satisfy people with basic health tracking requirements, but if you’re looking for more, Google has you covered with the Galaxy Watch series.

All of the following qualities, along with a body composition monitor, blood pressure monitoring technology, and a skin temperature sensor, are included in the Galaxy Watch 5’s base model. Unfortunately, blood pressure monitoring is not widely accessible and involves a lot of setup requirements. The skin temperature feature hasn’t yet been turned on by Samsung, and it’s unclear when it will. Despite these limitations, the Galaxy Watch 5 ultimately boasts a more robust health tracking loadout.

Google Pixel Watch Vs Samsung Watch 5 Pro: Final Verdict

The Pixel Watch is undoubtedly a desirable alternative for any Android user because it has Fitbit, greater storage, and a really nice, rounded appearance made of fine materials. However, Samsung offers users many advantages from a usage point of view, especially when considering battery life. It is not only less expensive, but it also comes in two sizes and has stronger glass covering the display. It’s difficult not to view it as the best choice for the majority of people.
