Today in this article we will compare the JBL Flip 6 and JBL Flip 5. The JBL Flip 6 has an IP67 rating, which makes it a worthy successor to the JBL Flip 5. Pairing this Bluetooth speaker with your devices is as simple as it has always been.
The JBL Flip 6 appears to carry on the brand’s tradition of tough Bluetooth speakers that can be used on trips or to pool parties. There are some cosmetic modifications and an enhanced audio arrangement, but in terms of build quality and sound quality, it is essentially similar to the JBL Flip 5. The question is whether the Flip 6 is an acceptable substitute for a well-known workhorse.
Whereas, we believe the Flip 5 is an excellent successor to the Flip 4, particularly if you’re going on a weekend excursion or simply resting in your backyard.

Design And Build Quality
JBL’s early Bluetooth speakers were popular for a reason: they worked. Two of them, in fact, are on our list of the finest Bluetooth speakers. A robust, substantial tube surrounds the speaker and tweeter, with a passive bass radiator at each end. It’s robust enough to withstand falls from great heights as well as the weight of a carry-on bag. The Flip 6 has a larger and more minimalist “JBL” logo than the Flip 5, which scratches more easily. You also get the same strong construction and form factor as previously.
The JBL Flip series is well-known for its toughness. The Flip series was initially simply splashproof, but it has now evolved to be entirely waterproof, as evidenced by the new JBL Flip 5. With an IPX7 rating, both of these Flip speakers can be submerged in water for up to three feet without losing functioning. At either end of the speaker, thick rubber shields the exposed bass radiators.
The power and Bluetooth pairing controls, as well as a USB-C charging port, are located on the rear of the speaker. When the speaker is turned on and connected to a source device, LED lights to surround these buttons. It’s a feature I’d want to see on the fabric-built playback buttons as well. Because they protrude somewhat from the cloth, it’s easy to tell which button is which, but in low light, I think they’d be much easier to use than if they shone brilliantly or were painted a different shade of red. Despite my admiration for the black-on-black design, I believe the buttons should be white or another bright color that contrasts with the speaker.
Controls
Talking about JBL Flip 6, the controls are located directly next to the logo. Pressing them is simple enough that you don’t even need to move your eyes as long as you can see their shapes without looking down. To play and pause material, adjust the volume, skip tracks, and activate PartyBoost, utilize the controls. Any of these items could come in handy at a party or when going for a walk.
Because of the strong connection, I was able to play music from my iPhone 11 Pro in my pocket around my flat. When a malfunction occurred, the speaker had to be turned on and off numerous times before regular playback could be resumed. Although it was unpleasant at first, the stuttering and skipping had no long-term effect on the audio. A simple speaker turn-off appears to solve the problem, but it is still an annoyance that should be avoided.

Connectivity
The JBL Flip 6 only supports the SBC Bluetooth codec and Bluetooth 5.1. The speaker has a theoretical interior range of 40 meters thanks to Bluetooth 5.1, but only under ideal conditions. This speaker, like the JBL Flip 5, lacks an aux port to compensate for Bluetooth codec issues.
The JBL Flip 6 is easy to install. When you press the Bluetooth button on the speaker, the pairing process begins. Then, on the device, you intend to use for gaming, choose it. JBL Flip 6 may connect to up to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. It does not, however, save a list of devices in memory. It’s not enough to just press the Bluetooth button on one device and select Flip 6 on another. Manually stopping and replaying content is thus possible across all of your devices. When you connect another device, the speaker will forget about these two.
On the other hand, talking about JBL Flip 5, streaming YouTube videos was incredibly sluggish and unwatchable due to a lack of high-quality Bluetooth codecs in this area. There is no way to resolve this issue because JBL deleted the 3.5mm input. Unfortunately, this speaker cannot be used with non-Bluetooth devices.
The JBL Flip 5’s PartyBoost function is, in my opinion, one of the most worthless gimmicks on any JBL speaker. It’s as simple as pushing the speaker’s exclusive PartyBoost button to add a second JBL speaker for stereo sound or to give your party an extra kick.
Sound Clarity
The Flip 6 is no exception to JBL’s Bluetooth speakers having a distinct frequency response, or “signature sound.” In comparison to the Flip 4, the Flip 5 has greater bass, and it appears that the Flip 6 will have the same. For audiophiles who want to hear every nuance in their music, any other Bluetooth speaker would be preferable. To have a nice time with the JBL Flip 6, keep in mind that it was designed for outdoor and party use
Lows, Midpoints, And Apex
“Rent” by Big Freedia sounds fantastic on the JBL Flip 6 speaker. The Flip 6 amplifies Big Freedia’s voice while retaining the booming deep notes of the New Orleans blockbuster. Meanwhile, drum-heavy bhangra compositions like Jugni produce thunderous dance sounds, with Arif Lohar and Nooran Lal clearly heard over the top.
Before reading too much into a drastically softened picture, keep in mind that the Flip 5 is a low-cost Bluetooth speaker. You’ll have to live with the 60Hz roll-off no matter what speaker you get for less than a few hundred dollars. Furthermore, because you’ll most likely be utilizing the Flip 5 in less-than-ideal conditions, this is only an approximate approximation of its performance. A variety of elements are at work here, including the fact that you’ll be listening to this outside of a sound-damped or anechoic environment. You can listen to it in a quiet room, on a crowded beach, or in your own backyard.

- The speaker is extremely loud in its own right. As you can see in the video, I have barely turned this up and the side speakers are shaking.

Whereas talking about the JBL Flip 5, despite its lack of originality, the JBL Charge 5 is a fantastic speaker. Despite the fact that both the Charge 5 and the Flip 5 have cylindrical forms, the Charge 5 is a completely distinct speaker.
