JBL Go 2 Vs JBL Clip 3: Which To Choose & Why?

JBL’s Go line, now in its second generation Go 2, is the smallest and most affordable of the company’s wireless Bluetooth speakers. The JBL Go 2 is difficult to beat when it comes to portable wireless speakers. It has been improved in both appearance and sound quality since the first version, and it is now completely waterproof. It can also be used as a speakerphone. Because it weighed only 130 grams, the first JBL Go speaker appeared and felt like a toy speaker. This updated model, which retails for $40 and comes in a variety of colours, has a more substantial build (weighing in at 184g) and softer edges. It’s also completely waterproof (IPX7 rating). This means it can withstand being submerged in water for 30 minutes at a depth of 3 feet (1 meter).

While previous Clip models were excellent, the Clip 3 is a must-have for the vast majority of consumers due to its significantly longer battery life and sleeker design. The Clip 3 will meet your needs whether you are an adventurer who goes on hikes or a homebody who wants to hang a Bluetooth speaker in the bathroom.

JBL Go 2 vs JBL Clip 3: Detailed Analysis

Design and Build Quality

The JBL GO 2 is a portable speaker that improves on the original in several key ways. Because of its small footprint, it is easy to transport and fits in a variety of bags and purses. Overall, it’s less plasticky and feels more like a genuine speaker than a cheap toy.

The new JBL Clip 3 appears to be very similar to the previous version, but there are a few minor improvements worth mentioning. The carabiner on the Clip 2 was attached to a piece of hard plastic, but this new model has one built into the speaker frame.

Battery

JBL Clip 3

The JBL Go 2 has the same 3 watts of power as its predecessor and a battery life of 5 hours at moderate volume (which isn’t great). It’s also an excellent speakerphone (it has a built-in microphone).

The battery life of the JBL Clip 3 is the most noticeable upgrade, but I also appreciate the design upgrades, which include the JBL Clip 3’s sleeker appearance and more comfortable fit. We were able to extend JBL’s claimed 10 hours of continuous playback to 16 hours and 11 minutes at a constant output of 75dB during our testing.

However, keep in mind that when you’re outside, you’ll most likely turn up the volume to make the music easier to hear, which will reduce the battery life of your device. Even at this low price, the fact that it can only be charged via micro USB is a significant disadvantage for such a cutting-edge product. To power the speaker while it charges, all you need is a micro-USB cable (which, thankfully, comes with it). The cable’s standard USB end can be plugged into any USB charging brick, while the micro USB input is located under the plastic flap along the speaker’s button.

Audio Quality

They produce respectable sound for portable speakers. The Go 2 has more bass and is louder than the original Go. However, it’s not surprising that this speaker lacks enough bass to shake even the smallest room. The SoundLink Micro from Bose is 2.5 times the price of the cheaper model, but it plays music much louder and has better sound quality.

While it is not ideal for listening to music, this speaker is ideal for watching movies or streaming videos. The speaker is appropriately named the Go, so I watched the 1999 film Go (anyone? ), streaming it without any issues with audio or video sync. This is because the midrange of these tiny speakers is their strongest point, making them ideal for speech listening

JBL Go 2

You should be familiar with the sound quality if you have used or listened to a previous generation of the JBL Clip. I discovered that the speaker handled the midrange very well while listening to songs like “Swans and the Swimming” by Iron & Wine. Although it has difficulty distinguishing everything when there is a lot going on in a song, this speaker is ideal for listening to soothing acoustic music or podcasts.

Those who prefer music with a stronger bass presence will be disappointed. The bass fades out too quickly, rendering Gorillaz’s “Kids with Guns” muffled and lifeless. Even so, it’s difficult to expect much from something so small. The Clip 4’s highs aren’t the clearest, but keep in mind that it’s designed primarily as an outdoor speaker.

JBL Go 2 vs JBL Clip 3: Final Verdict

These provide comparable sound quality to the JBL Clip 2 and Clip 3, but in a different form factor, so keep that in mind when comparing these three products. Although I haven’t tested the Clip 3 yet, rumours suggest that its audio quality improves marginally over the Clip 2, making it possible that it outperforms the Go 2 in terms of both sound quality and bass response. The battery life of the Clip 3 is twice as long as that of its predecessor (10 hours). However, there is a $20 surcharge. (We will revise this review once Clip 3 is received.)

Simply put, the Clip 3 is an improved version of one of my favourite speakers. The battery life has been significantly improved, and the design is now consistent with other JBL products. The sound won’t be as good as at a backyard barbecue, but it’ll suffice for a small gathering, a hike, or simply listening to podcasts in the shower. At around $50, the Clip series has always been a no-brainer, but this new and improved version is the first time I’ve considered it a steal. Keep an eye on the price because it typically ranges between $39 and $89, allowing you to save a few dollars.
