JBL Xtreme 3 Vs JBL Charge 5: Detailed Analysis

Design:

The JBL Xtreme 3 and Charge 5 are very similar speakers, however, the Xtreme 3 is slightly large or can be called a medium-sized cylindrical speaker which can be vertically and horizontally placed. It has two hooks on its top side where a strap can be attached. The strap has a bottle opener. The speaker is wrapped up with tight netting which makes it look sturdy. A rubber base is provided to keep it from sliding if it is placed vertically. It doesn’t have RGB lights and comes in three colour variants.

The JBL Charge 5 is a small cylindrical speaker with the impressive build quality. It is made up of hard plastic and has a bigger logo on its front. The controls are located on the top of the speaker which includes a play and pause button, + and – volume button, power button and a party boost button. At the bottom of the speaker, several dots light up to indicate the speaker’s battery level. Its power and Bluetooth indicator light get on when the speaker turns on. It also comes in many colour variants.

Sound:

The JBL Xtreme 3 delivers detailed sound with deep bass as it is equipped with four drivers and two pumping JBL bass radiators. It effortlessly delivers massive JBL original pro-sound. 

The JBL Charge 5 delivers powerful sound with deep bass. However, the sound gets distorted at very high volumes. The woofers and tweeters are located at the front of the speaker so the sound is directional. It has an optimised excursion driver, a tweeter and dual bass radiators that deliver rich and clear audio.

Battery:

The JBL Xtreme 3 has a Li-ion 36.3 Wh rechargeable battery that gives a battery backup that lasts up to 15 hours from a single charge. This speaker takes about 2.5 hours to get fully charged.

The JBL Charge 5 has a Li-ion polymer rechargeable battery of 27 Wh. It offers up to 20 hours of battery backup from a single charge and the charging time is of 4 hours. 

Connectivity:

The JBL Xtreme 3 and JBL charge 5 both have quite impressive Bluetooth performance. They have Bluetooth version 5.1 and have a multi pairing feature which means you can connect up to two devices at a time. The speakers are compatible with A2DP 1.3 and AVRCP 1.6 profiles. Their Bluetooth frequency ranges from 2400MHz to 2483.5MHz, however, the Bluetooth transmitter power is less than equal to 12dBm for JBL Xtreme 3 and 20dBm for JBL charge 5. The speakers have low latency with Android and iOS which makes them suitable for watching videos.
