Are you looking for a portable laptop with lots of performance? Spend a few minutes reading our review of the LG Gram 15 and Gram 14.  This article stresses the LG Gram 14 and 15’s performance ability and many more aspects. We will evaluate the laptop’s CPU, GPU, RAM, battery, and storage capabilities to do this. You will also receive a thorough explanation of all the features of the LG Gram 15 and Gram 14. You would have enough knowledge about both the LG Gram at the final result of this review to evaluate if the laptop satisfies your demands.

Laptop buyers can get a large 15-inch screen from the LG Gram 15 for a weight that is hard to believe. This svelte marvel is the lightest laptop with this size display that we have ever tested, weighing only 2.16 pounds. The Gram notebook boasts a virtually bezel-less display, which elevates it beyond the original 14-inch Gram’s knockoff appearance of an Apple MacBook. Additionally, the Gram 15 features a complete set of ports, in contrast to many superthin notebooks. The only things keeping this device from being truly outstanding are its mediocre build quality and short battery life.

The LG Gram 14, on the other hand, gives off a strong first impression as a strong, sleek, midsize laptop. The main selling feature is how lightweight it is, especially given that it is a 14-inch laptop with a capable Intel Core i7 processor. But upon the second examination, you’ll discover several surprising absences. Its display resolution limits out at 1,920×1,080 pixels, for instance, which is surprising for a modern Windows laptop with clearly premium pricing. It also lacks a touchscreen and a backlit keyboard.

LG Gram 15 (2022) and Gram 14 (2021): Detailed Analysis

Design

The LG Gram 15 is a stylish product that combines design elements from some of the greatest laptops on the market. The practically bezel-free display of this laptop makes us think of newer notebooks, and the thin curves make us think of Apple’s MacBook Air. Unfortunately, when we applied pressure, the laptop’s magnesium-alloy lid and deck flexed. Although LG claims the Gram is durable, its claim that it is constructed from “the same materials found in race cars” doesn’t give one much hope. Although the notebook’s hinge feels more secure than the one on the original 14-inch Gram, the display still jiggled when we used it on the lap. A stunning feature of the Gram is its practically edge-to-edge 15.6-inch screen. Our colorimeter indicates that the Gram 15’s display can output up to 100.6% of the sRGB color space. That goes beyond what the typical mainstream notebook offers. There are numerous high-end 13-inch and 14-inch laptops that fall within the price range of the LG Gram’s 15, but its major selling point is how lightweight it is. Particularly if we talk about the Core i7 processor, it weighs only 2.16 pounds (980 grams).

LG Gram 15

The body has a lot of flex since the chassis, which is comprised of carbon magnesium and lithium magnesium alloys, has little mass. The four rubber feet on the bottom of our test unit didn’t all sit level on the table, and the bottom panel had a noticeable crack at one location where two panels didn’t fit together perfectly. Inside, the tray has only a large island-style keyboard and a touchpad with a glass top. Although the center of the keyboard tray has a lot of giving under the fingers, typing is effortless. The shallow keys may have contributed to the rare missed keystroke or two that we experienced. A keyboard backlight, which was once uncommon but is now common in many laptops, even in more affordable models, is also absent. However, the spacious touchpad was a strength and excelled at multi-touch movements like two-finger scrolling. Each of the three LG Gram variants has a non-touch, 1,920×1,080 IPS display. While removing touch can save weight, width, and cost, it is also a feature that is now expected in higher-end non-Mac laptops. Fortunately, Windows 10 performs better on non-touchscreen PCs than Windows 8 ever did. Our test unit’s display was quite bright and had excellent off-axis visibility, but it was also highly glossy and reflected a lot of screen glare.

Ports and Keyboard

We don’t find a shallow keyboard surprising when testing a notebook this slim. The keys on the Gram 15 have a travel distance of only 1.1 millimeters.  We “bottomed out” even though the keys demanded more strength of the force to actuate, which made typing uncomfortable. LG equipped the Gram with a complete keyboard and a number pad, but in order to fit both, it shrunk the right Shift, Backslash, Enter, and Backspace keys. The 4 x 2.6-inch buttonless touchpad on this laptop had a satisfying click with each movement, and its rules indicate my input. The Gram 14 has a respectable selection of ports for a notebook this thin and light. On the left side of the Gram, LG positioned USB Type-C, HDMI, and USB 3.0 connections. On the right side of the LG 14 are a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, security slot, microSD memory reader, and several ports for headphones.

Furthermore, the LG Gram 15’s keyboard is still roomy and has keys that are really pleasant. The touchpad continues to be highly responsive and delicate. Although it has a slim design, the LG Gram 15 has a significant number of connectors. 3 USB 3.1 ports, 1 USB Type C port, and 1 USB 3.1 Type C port are provided (RJ45 gender). You also get 1 HDMI port and 1 Thunderbolt 3 port in addition to that. The LG Gram 15 boasts a clean, sophisticated appearance all around. You will, however, have to make do with a less expensive structure. But given how light the laptop is, it is a reasonable price to pay.

Performance

LG Gram 14

The Gram doesn’t excel in any performance competitions, but it has enough power to keep you busy all day. The Intel Core i5 1135G7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD drive in our LG Gram 15 test device enable efficient multitasking. When We shared our screen with a dozen Chrome tabs, including Spotify, TweetDeck, a Google Doc, and a streaming 1080p video, We saw no slowdown. The Gram 15 only received a 5,831 on the Geekbench 3 general performance test, suggesting that some performance may have been sacrificed in order to reduce weight.

Even while other high-end laptops with Core i7 CPUs performed as quickly as or even faster in multitasking tests, we tested the LG Gram 15 in its most expensive configuration, and single-app performance was quite strong. The LG Gram would be fantastic if it had exceptional battery life to go along with its lightweight and portability. That’s not a bad score, and a few years ago, it would have been deemed exceptional, but the MacBook Air tops it by almost three hours and the Dell by more than an hour.

Graphics

The LG Gram’s Intel HD 520 integrated graphics limited its gaming options to simple games like Candy Crush Soda Saga and Asphalt 8. The Gram scored 53,664, which is lower than the typical popular notebook in the 3DMark Ice Storm Full benchmark test. The LG Gram 15 has an Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU built in. The base frequency of this GPU is 300 MHz, while the boost frequency is 1150 MHz.

Sadly, the LG Gram 15 falls short in this regard. This laptop’s lack of a dedicated VRAM hurts its gaming performance. But even with older games, this laptop can provide playable frame rates. However, in order to attain acceptable frame rates in the majority of contemporary title games, you will need to decrease the graphics settings. Additionally, we played Fortnight at a higher framerate of 20 FPS with the same medium settings. Obviously, high-end gaming is not a good fit for the LG Gram 15.

Battery Life

When you’re carrying the Gram, you might be enjoying it, but when your battery runs out too soon, you’ll start worrying. On the Laptop Mag Battery Test, the laptop only lasted 6 hours and 2 minutes. The LG Gram 15 has a 4-Cell 72 W Lithium-ion battery, in contrast. According to LG, this laptop has an 18.5-hour battery life. We’ve learned not to fully believe the statements that manufacturers make as a result of the countless unfulfilled promises we’ve received from them. In this instance, it is a little different. The LG Gram 15’s battery life in our test was a little bit close to the figures LG has stated. The LG Gram 15’s battery life was 15 hours and 30 minutes during a web browsing test with medium screen brightness.

LG Gram 15 (2022) Vs LG Gram 14 (2021): Final Verdict

The LG Gram 15 is a remarkable engineering achievement and is by far the lightest 15-inch laptop we’ve ever seen. The model we tested boasts a gorgeous display and a strong Core i5 processor, but its magnesium-alloy frame flexes excessively, and its battery life falls short of that of other notebooks. A new player entering the tough US laptop market is always thrilling. In 2008, Samsung made a move along those lines, and since then, the company has grown to be one of our favorites

The LG Gram 14 gradually made its way into my usual rotation of laptops despite lacking some features We’d prefer to see at this price point and having battery life on the low end of acceptable, mostly because it provided a larger screen in a fairly portable design. If LG can build on the qualities of the LG Gram and fill in some of the gaps, it may turn out to be a viable competitor to some of the more well-known ultra-light laptop families. The LG Gram feels like a sketchpad for the future generation of LG laptops.
