Despite the arrival of the RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti, Nvidia’s RTX 2060 remains one of the best GPUs on the market.
Instead of being a meager, plasticky stepchild in Nvidia’s GPU family, this GPU packs a powerful punch. You can enjoy Nvidia’s ray-traced future while still gaming in Full HD and QHD on this card, which supports both.
Each Nvidia GeForce graphics card generation brings a significant increase in power over the previous one. The Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card performs the same functions as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, but with significant improvements that blow the best AMD graphics cards out of the water.
If the price of the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB can be brought down to $329, it will be an excellent product for mainstream gamers. Even with the lower mining performance, this is unlikely because its performance is in the middle of the RTX 2060 Super and 2070 Super ranges.

RTX 2060 vs RTX 3060: Detailed Analysis
Specs And Performance

The Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB brings a new level of performance to the mainstream market in some ways, but it’s not quite there yet. The RTX 3060 starts at $329 and goes up from there. Realistically? An RTX 3060 Ti for $399 is as likely to be found as an RTX 3070 for $499 or an RTX 3080 for $699 — not impossible, but extremely unlikely. Many of the best graphics cards are now in high demand from both gamers and cryptocurrency miners thanks to Nvidia’s new Ampere architecture. Everything in our GPU benchmarks hierarchy is currently sold out due to people willing to pay extreme scalper pricing on eBay for cards like the GTX 1660 Super and RTX 2060. To detect Ethereum mining, Nvidia has added firmware and driver code. Nvidia is even resurrecting Turing and Pascal cards from previous generations in collaboration with third parties.
Nvidia has released pricing and availability information for the GeForce RTX 2060
The new Nvidia RTX 2060 costs $339 (approximately £270, AU$490), which is more expensive than the card we looked at in our Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 review. A $200 price increase, while not as severe as the increases seen on the company’s higher-end GPUs, could be considered a minor increase.
If you want a high-end graphics card but can’t afford the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti, you could consider the $449 (£419, AU$759) Nvidia RTX 2060. The $499 (approximately £380, AU$690) Nvidia RTX 2070 remains the winner, but AMD’s $399 (£379, AU$679) Radeon RX Vega 56 and $279 (£249, AU$425) XFX Radeon RX 590 Fatboy outperform.
GPU Hardware
The following are its closest Ampere siblings and Turing predecessors. The RTX 2060 and 2060 Super demonstrate how much has changed for -60 suffix cards in terms of Turing and Ampere. The memory bandwidth of the 12GB card isn’t significantly improved, but Ampere’s shader core count is significantly higher, potentially allowing for higher computational performance.
Aside from that, it doubles VRAM capacity (until the expected RTX 3060 6GB arrives, but Nvidia may just leave that for the RTX 3050 line) and boasts improvements in the RT and Tensor cores, as well as the memory subsystem, all of which lead to improved performance. Despite a slight decrease in power consumption, the 170W TGP (Total Graphics Power) remains unchanged from the RTX 3060 Ti.
Whereas Nvidia is using 15Gbps GDDR6 memory for the first time. With the exception of the RTX 2080 Super, all RTX 20-series cards used 14Gbps memory. Although the bandwidth difference between the 3060 and 3060 Ti has narrowed slightly, the GA104 cards continue to have a significant advantage due to the additional 64 bits of interface width. Furthermore, the ROPs (Render Outputs) of the GA106 are identical to those of the RTX 2060, so it has no advantage there as well.

The RTX 2060 represents a significant advancement for Nvidia’s graphics card lineup when compared to the previous generation. This graphics card is significantly more powerful thanks to six GB of the latest 14Gbps GDDR6 video memory and 50 per cent more CUDA cores.
Despite the fact that the RTX 2060 was designed for 1080p gaming and could barely play some 1440p games, it has mastered high-frame-rate Full HD gaming and can deliver excellent 1440p results as well as playable 4K gaming at 30 frames per second (fps).

Performance
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 outperformed the Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti and other high-end GPUs from AMD’s Pascal generation in synthetic benchmarks. Only the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, AMD Radeon RX Vega 56, and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 are more expensive than the Nvidia RTX 2060.
You won’t find another mid-range graphics card as powerful as this one once Nvidia’s Super RTX and AMD’s new RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT are released.
Because of this high level of performance, gamers can expect a lag-free gaming experience. Owners of high-refresh-rate monitors will be pleased to learn that the Nvidia RTX 2060 can maintain frame rates above 60fps in Full HD gaming. In our tests, we discovered that it can play 4K games at 30 frames per second.
As previously stated when discussing the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, this is Nvidia’s first desktop card to use the GA106 processor. Each of the three GPCs (Graphics Processing Clusters) can house up to 10 SMs and 16 ROPs (read-only processors) (the two blocks of eight blue rectangles each at the bottom of the GPC). The 3060 disables only two of the chip’s thirty SMs, leaving the remaining 28 SMs fully operational. Despite having less memory and running at a lower clock speed than the desktop card, the mobile RTX 3060 supports all 30 SKUs.
Each SM has 64 CUDA cores, each of which can be used for either FP32 or FP32+INTER cores. In addition to the two new generations of Tensor cores and one second-generation RT core, the SMs have one second-generation RT and four third-generation RT cores, each of which is up to twice as fast as the previous generation. Finally, there are six different 32-bit memory interfaces, each of which connects to an 8GB or 16GB GDDR6 module, depending on whether you’re using a laptop or a desktop.

RTX 2060 vs RTX 3060: Final Verdict
If you want to experiment with ray tracing in games, the RTX 2060 is the best option at a reasonable price. It is critical that you use DLSS technology.
The RTX 2060’s framerates are significantly improved thanks to DLSS, a cutting-edge graphics card technology that has emerged in recent years.
Nvidia‘s final thoughts on the RTX 3060 RTX. The GA106 chip has 12 billion transistors as opposed to 17.4 billion in the GA104. This reduces the size of the die from 393mm square to 276mm square, which not only lowers the cost of the chip but also increases the number of chips Nvidia can get from a single wafer.
