Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Vs Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro: Which One To Choose?

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Vs Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is a stunning smartwatch made of titanium with a ceramic back and sapphire glass on display. The GT 2 Pro might be one of the best-looking smartwatches on the market, even if Huawei has already produced some wearables with stunning designs. The older brother of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The Classic variant is larger and bulkier than the Standard version and is more elegant. The wearable features a more upscale look and a rotating bezel, but these upgrades are not free. Samsung has re-entered the Wear OS,

Google’s smartwatch operating system, market with the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The availability of the apps on the Play Store will ensure that there is no longer a problem with app availability thanks to this software integration. The software, known as the One UI Watch 3, combines the best of Google and Samsung. We will compare these watches and see which one rises as the ultimate winner.

Design And Display

Think back to the Pebble and the Samsung Gear S, which were all rectangular devices before the already Apple Watch. Smartwatches have come a long way. One of the best-looking round smartwatches we’ve used is the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. The sapphire glass fascia’s framed curve into the titanium body’s sculptural form. It combines slightly contrasted finishes across the board with a rich, unifying design and has a bold, classical styling. The Watch GT 2 Pro strikes the right note between being a well-weighted, traditional-looking smartwatch with a large, bright display. Many smartwatches either feel awkward or immaterial. The watch isn’t compact due to the 1.39-inch screen size, so anyone looking for a subdued watch that has slimmer wrists won’t find it appealing.

The Watch GT 2 Pro’s OLED screen, like that of the majority of smartwatches, is sufficiently bright for comfortable viewing. However, its auto-brightness can be a little overbearing indoors, decreasing until natural light floods your wrist, at which point it brightens immediately. However, outdoors there were no brightness difficulties, and visibility was excellent overall. The top button on the pair of what appear to be rotating crowns on the right navigates to your list of installed apps, while the bottom button allows for customization. The watch comes with easy-release fastenings on both the included leather and silicone straps, and it also accepts third-party straps with a standard 46mm width for easy customization.

We wore the Watch GT 2 Pro all the time because it was so comfortable for daily use, including while exercising organically. Although it was essentially a single piece of machined metal, it didn’t seem heavy or unwieldy, and unlike some less expensive smartwatches, the ceramic back didn’t make our wrists sweaty. If you’re looking for a sizable, classically styled digital watch, the Watch GT 2 Pro’s design is close to perfect. It also serves as a great example of how far Huawei’s hardware design has advanced.

Compared to the Galaxy Watch 4, the Classic is larger and bulkier. This also adds a rotating bezel around the display, which is a feature that, interestingly, no other smartwatch manufacturer has yet to implement. This time, only the more expensive Classic edition has a rotating bezel. While the 46mm version is 11mm thick and weighs 52 grams, the 42mm version is 11.2mm thick and 47 grams in weight.

The watch is bulky, and the majority of wearers can feel the weight when using it for the first time. Even someone who used to wear traditional watches may find the Galaxy Watch 4 to be heavy. Contrary to most smartwatches, the straps can only extend straight out from the body’s sides, leaving a significant space between them and your wrist on either side. The straps can be swapped out for others of your choosing, whether they are first- or third-party because they are replaceable. The new watch comes with a silicone strap instead of the leather-strapped Galaxy Watch 3, which is a positive thing. However, we did not get the premium option here. The watch has two buttons on the left side; the top one is for going back to the main watch face when you’re in the menus. The watch is constructed of stainless steel, so it seems quite durable.

The bezel that rotates is a delight to use, and you’ll find it helpful in more situations than you might think. Navigating through the menu and screens is quite simple. Additionally, you get a nice click, and it may occasionally be rather addictive. The rotating bezel’s primary benefit is that it improves screen visibility. Additionally, you get a 1.4-inch display with a resolution of 450 × 450 pixels. It is a spherical Super AMOLED display with exceptional visibility and brightness. Gorilla Glass DX, which provides scratch resistance, shields it. Whether it’s day or night, the screen is simple to read in all lighting conditions. Even in bright sunshine, you can read what’s on the screen without using your other hand. On the AMOLED screen, you also get an always-on display, which is fantastic. There are numerous screen customization options available for both the companion app and the watch. Last but not least, the watch is IP68 water and dust-resistant, so you may submerge it up to five meters deep.

Performance And Software

Given that the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro’s specifications are so lacking in comparison to those of the Apple Watch or Samsung’s most recent Galaxy Watch 4, it’s amazing that it runs so smoothly. If you want third-party apps and the most smarts on your wrist, go elsewhere because this watch only has 32 MB of memory and an exceptionally low-power Kirin A1 CPU. However, Huawei is exceptionally skilled at what it does because of how effectively it has streamlined the software on the Watch GT 2 Pro. Consequently, the UI merely feels smoother than previously despite using familiar hardware. Why would you desire a watch with limited power? No, Wear OS, Apple, Samsung, or wristwatch running other operating systems has a battery life that rivals that of fitness trackers like the Xiaomi Mi Band 5. Huawei’s first Watch GT solved the battery problem but had a rough user interface.

This was enhanced by the Watch GT 2, and the Watch GT 2 Pro feels even smoother. The Apple Watch’s smoothness is, therefore, not ideal, and it also runs out of battery life after two days. There are trade-offs involved with Huawei’s low-power strategy. Third-party apps are not supported by the Watch GT 2 Pro. Although it comes with a full complement of the standard suspects, you’ll have to wait for OS updates to enhance the experience.

Additionally, interactive notifications are not supported. It, therefore, relays notifications from your phone like a fitness tracker, but you can’t reply to texts on your wrist. Regarding alerts, a significant improvement is the Watch GT 2 Pro’s near-identical usage with both Android and iOS. This was a key complaint with previous generation GTs. For the first time ever, a Huawei watch should be on your shortlist if you want a circular watch and own an iPhone. By using the watch as a Bluetooth receiver, you can make direct phone calls from your GT 2 Pro to contacts. The range is amazing, and the result is some of the clearest watch callings we’ve ever encountered.

Swipe left and right to cycle through the menus for sleep, heart rate, stress levels, weather, and activity. The basic user interface is rather straightforward. Although Celia, Huawei’s voice assistant, would be available on the GT 2 Pro, it wasn’t functioning with our early review sample watch. From the top of the screen, you can slide down to get a fast toggle menu, and from the bottom, you can swipe up to access your alerts. Fortunately, the Huawei Health app is a strong option for iOS and Android users, serving as a dashboard for your health statistics and assisting you in controlling your watch. You may select your preferred contacts, manage stress tracking, select from a range of watch faces (which can also be done with the watch itself), and more through it.

Samsung’s Exynos W920 chipset, along with 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, power the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The watch can continue to operate without any problems thanks to this combination. We never experienced lag or stuttering while using the wearable throughout the month we tested it. One of the quickest and most responsive smartwatches we’ve seen is this one. Only roughly 7GB of the 16GB of storage may be used to store music, apps, and files; the remaining space is taken up by the operating system and pre-installed software. With a combination of Wear OS and Samsung’s Tizen OS capabilities, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is back in the Wear OS game. One UI Watch 3 is the name of the new operating system of the watch. Although it doesn’t make a significant shift from the previous generation of Samsung wearables, the software does.

Although it includes a number of Samsung apps, Wear OS is what is essential. You can download a tonne of apps and services for your wrist thanks to Wear OS’s inclusion in the Google Play Services and Play Store. Nevertheless, only the Samsung Health app—not Google’s Wear OS app—can be used for pairing and access to all fitness and feature data. You receive a greater selection of apps than what Samsung provided with Tizen OS. It was a pleasure to utilize the UI and scroll through it. While swipes and touches are useful, we frequently found ourselves using the spinning bezel. The wearable is compatible with mobile devices running Android as well as iOS. Similar to how some functions operate better on Android devices than on iPhones, some are tailored for Samsung mobile devices.

You may access all of your notifications by swiping over to the left side of your home screen. If you have any unread alerts, a tiny orange dot appears on the side of the screen. Smart suggestions or the keypad’s drawing or typing options are both available as ways to respond to notifications. Swiping left will take you to the second window, and the top bar will provide quick settings. The watch also has a built-in speaker and microphone, allowing you to pick up and respond to calls using your watch while it is connected to your phone. If you wish to leave your phone behind, the LTE-ready version is useful. The smartwatch has compatibility with e-SIM. The UI still has a generally Samsung-like appearance and feel. But it functions well and without any difficulties. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic combines Wear OS apps and services with Samsung Tizen OS capabilities to deliver the best of both worlds.

Fitness Tracker

If you are using it with an Android phone, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro will post your health data to Google Fit and MyFitnessPal. If you are using it with an iPhone, the data will be uploaded to Apple Health. The Watch’s heart rate, sleep, step, and workout tracking are used by these services, resulting in a more connected experience than the Watch GT of the first generation. Press the upper physical button to see an app list with workouts prominently displayed at the top and fitness-related features. Additionally, you may use this list to analyze your workout logs, keep tabs on your heart rate, SPO2, and stress levels, or take a chill pill with some breathing exercises. The Watch GT 2 Pro offers all the standard clock features, including alarms, timers, and stopwatches, as well as some useful hiking aids, such as a barometer and a compass.

We won’t go over all 100+ workouts that were tracked on it, but it is important to note that the Watch GT2 Pro allows swimming in both a pool and open water and has a triathlon mode thanks to its 5ATM water and dust resistance. Even skiing tracking is available. Users of Huawei’s most recent Lite OS have the freedom to add and remove shortcuts to exercises at will, which minimizes list scrolling and makes it simpler to locate the exercise you’re looking for. The practical offline navigation tool is a great highlight if you prefer an outdoor workout because it can assist you in getting home if you get lost.

During our time with the watch, the GPS accuracy was consistently accurate, matching both a phone and a more expensive wearable. The heart rate monitor was also accurate, reporting just a few beats higher than a chest strap. Despite the Watch GT 2 Pro’s lack of support for third-party applications like Strava and Spotify, we do have one significant complaint about it. Every time you begin a workout, the watch emits a tremendously loud, incredibly obnoxious voice to alert anyone nearby that you are exercising. Then, at various turning points, it starts again once more.  Fortunately, turning off voice tutoring is simple enough.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic comes with a tonne of features for your health and fitness. You receive an optical heart rate sensor, an in-built GPS, and support for an ECG. The main upgrade is a 3-in-1 BioActive sensor that allows the watch to track body composition, blood oxygen levels, and heart rate. You may find measures like skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, BMI, and body water using the body composition tools. Although you must hold the two side buttons straight in order for the scans to function, they are simple to perform. On the companion Samsung Health app, a clean graph displays all the data. Although it is difficult for us to determine how precise these measures are, we found it valuable to have at least a general understanding of them. You may monitor these over time to see if you can enhance the outcomes.

Since most wearables are accurate in this regard, it is not unexpected that the heart rate monitor performed as expected. In comparison to the Watch 3’s predecessor, the SpO2 monitor functions nicely this time around as well. The ECG sensor is the main point of restriction. You will only have access to the ECG tools if you link your device to a Samsung smartphone. When it comes to fitness and step tracking, you have access to more than 90 different sports modes. While running or walking, we discovered that the step count was precise. Here, the GPS tracking is also precise. The watch alerts you when you reach a goal while running or walking, including the distance traveled and the number of steps. Additionally, there is an automatic end detection for workouts. When it believes that you have completed a workout, it will swiftly ask you if you have finished it.

Furthermore, you receive a SpO2 monitor, stress tracking, and sleep tracking, all of which function nicely. The feature-rich Samsung Health app provides all the information about your health and fitness. You receive information about your activities, body composition, sleep, past exercise, stress, and more. In addition to that, it provides fitness training videos for you to watch and follow along with. In the last section of the app, you will find selected data that includes the total number of steps done with the watch, the longest time, the number of calories burned, the best distance traveled, and other information.

Battery Life

Like its predecessors, the Watch GT 2 Pro endures forever. If you keep your workouts to a minimum and keep your brightness at a maximum, Huawei’s claimed 14 days are achievable. But if you use it frequently, you’ll probably get between 5 and 10 days. We consider a smartwatch with a 7–10 day battery life to be remarkable. Being the first Huawei Watch to support wireless charging makes the WatchGT 2 Pro even better. To make matters even better, in contrast to Samsung’s most recent wristwatch, the GT 2 Pro was compatible with no fewer than four of our Qi chargers.

The 42mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has a 247mAh battery, whereas the 46mm model has a 361mAh battery. Despite the fact that they have varied screen sizes, we anticipate that they will last approximately the same amount of time. Some of the most disappointing aspects of the watch are the battery and charging.

Even with a full charge, the wearable device had a lifespan of no more than 1.5 days when it was put to use. Most of the time, we had approximately 30% of the battery remaining when we went to bed at 11 am, but when we used the watch a lot, it ran out of power at about 9 pm. We had most communication app notifications enabled while using AoD, with brightness set to 70% and GPS running for 30 minutes.

Regarding the process of charging, Samsung has provided the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic with a charging pad that is a part of the packaging itself. A complete charge takes approximately two hours and fifteen minutes, with the first hour of charging only adding 45 to 50 percent to the total. Samsung continues to use sluggish charging, which can be bothersome if you’re charging during the day. Wearables like the OnePlus Watch and Oppo Watch, which cost approximately Rs 15,000, provide fast charging, which can fully charge the watch in under 60 minutes. When it comes to the next generation of smartwatches, this is one area in which we would like to see Samsung take the lead.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Vs Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro: Final Verdict

There is no denying that the design of the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro, which is made of titanium, sapphire glass, and ceramic, is very stunning. With a battery life that can last anywhere from 5 to 14 days, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is one of the best battery performances currently available. Charging the Watch GT 2 Pro is really simple; simply lay it on a wireless charging pad, and it will be fully charged in a little over half an hour.

The Watch 4 series from Samsung marks the company’s return to the Wear OS game. The Samsung OneUI software is now built on Google’s Wear OS; as a result, you have access to the complete collection of wearable apps available on the Google Play Store. Samsung wearables are still the only ones with a rotating bezel. It is easier to use than you’d think to navigate with and is more useful than you might think. The AMOLED display, which is 1.4 inches and has a resolution of 450 by 450, is a visual delight as well. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic includes a number of helpful features that are related to fitness and health; if you are knowledgeable about these aspects, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is an excellent companion. You receive a built-in GPS, heart rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, and other tools; however, in order to use some of the capabilities, you’ll need a Samsung phone.
