UGREEN is a well-known cable and accessory retailer in the industry. UGREEN also makes wireless in-ear headphones, such as the HiTune X5, if you didn’t already know.

The UGREEN HiTune X5’s low price of $99 is, as expected, its first feature (or cheaper depending on which online store you are buying from). Despite its long list of features, you’d be right to be skeptical. The device is expected to have 10mm dynamic drivers, four high-sensitivity microphones, Qualcomm’s echo cancellation, and noise suppression algorithm, and IPX5 water resistance (ie. splash-proof).

UGREEN’s brand value has increased as a result of positive word-of-mouth from online platform sales. Furthermore, they have invested in product design in order to differentiate their generic products from the offerings of the OEMs.

When the HiTune true-wireless earbuds series was released in 2020, my ears were blown away. Ugreen’s earbuds are expected to be better now that the company has made a number of design changes. The deep seismic sub-bass and bright treble of the HiTune X5 have a cult following among audiophiles. Ugreen’s next step will be hybrid active noise cancellation. Design

The Ugreen X5 earbuds and charging case are housed in a glossy metallic black pill-box.

The UGREEN logo adorns the top of this charging case, which includes a USB-C port at the bottom. Three white LED lights on the front indicate the battery level. There is a reset button behind you.

When you open the lid, the earbuds are positioned so that they do not need to be rotated when you insert them into your ears. Apple AirPods and Razer Hammerhead True Wireless earbuds, for example, require a wired connection. However, when it comes to the design of the X6, we’ve come to expect something a little more out of the ordinary. The sides curve, but the top and bottom are flat. It’s made of plastic, but it has a premium look and feels to it. Furthermore, the case has a matte finish that makes it easy to grip. Because of its small size, it can easily fit into your pocket.

Performance

The HiTune X5 wireless earbuds are not as simple to pair with a dedicated app or a simple Bluetooth pairing as other premium wireless earbuds.

To pair, remove the earbuds from the charging case and search for “UGREEN HiTune X5” in the Bluetooth menu. To finish the pairing, tap on it.

In the meantime, I’d like to talk about the audio quality of the X6 as a standalone product. When you toggle between ANC and Gaming Mode, the audio on the X6 sounds different in each mode. ANC Off Gaming Mode Off appears to have a strange tuning and is thus my least favourite mode. This mode increases the lower midrange and treble (1-8KHz range) to make the instruments sound more aggressive and immersive. The mix, on the other hand, is a lot less painful to listen to thanks to the massive sub-bass level.

Sound Quality

With ANC turned on, it’s a typical V-shape presentation: the volume drops, the treble is recessed, and the upper treble sizzles are more controlled. For me, the ANC-on mode is preferable because switching between the two modes is simpler. It’s also possible to enable Gaming Mode, which keeps the same tuning regardless of ANC mode.

The ANC mode on the X6 does a good job of reducing engine rumbles and hiss, but it’s not perfect. At higher frequencies, it is still audible but does not compete with the big brands. I’d be willing to give up an average ANC feature to get better-sounding headphones. While I can easily compensate for ambient noise by increasing volume or improving ear tip seal, correcting EQ is a more difficult task. I’m now prepared to proceed to the next stage of my evaluation.

Is HiTune X6 better than HiTune X5?

Despite their similarities, the two models are quite distinct. It is not only related to the ANC. The first step is to create a design.

The HiTune X6 appears to be based on the same mould as the HiTune X5, but a closer look reveals that Ugreen has tweaked the design slightly. The photographs that follow demonstrate the subtle differences. Furthermore, the case design appears to be more expensive. The X6’s earbuds’ front plate, like the X5, is matte grey, as opposed to the X5’s glossy all-around material. There are a few notable technological differences:

The X6 includes six microphones for active noise cancellation.
The QCC3040 chip in both the X5 and the X6 supports aptX, while the Realtek chip in the X6 does not.
The X5 and X6 both use Bluetooth 5.2, but the X5 uses Bluetooth 5.1, which is a slightly older standard.
The difference in latency between the two gaming modes is only 50ms.
The battery life of the X5 and X6 is identical, with both capable of lasting up to 7 hours on a single charge.

On either device, tap once to play/pause, twice to increase or decrease volume, three times to cycle through tracks, and four times to enter gaming mode. The earbuds automatically enter pairing mode after pressing and holding the ANC button for one second. Dock the earbuds and press the charging case’s button for ten seconds to reset their connectivity.

Battery

The HiTune X5’s battery can last for seven hours on a single charge. By using the charging case, you can get an extra 21 hours of battery life.

During our tests, the battery level dropped to 50% after three hours of listening at an 80 per cent volume. To put it another way, the battery level appears to be as stated in the preceding paragraphs. This isn’t a bad result given that most true wireless earbuds have a battery life of around four hours. I was able to listen to music for more than five hours using the earbuds, which is quite an accomplishment. When the ANC feature is enabled, the battery life is reduced by nearly four hours. You can expect a battery life of up to 26 hours with the case.

Fast charging is possible thanks to the device’s USB-C support. Charges for the headphones can be completed in 1.5 hours.

Finally, the UGREEN High Tun X5 is a cost-effective and efficient solution. Despite the fact that it will not appeal to audiophiles, this is an excellent value for money. The UGreen HiTune X6, on the other hand, is a highly competitive TWS earbud. It’s a no-brainer with a price tag. The asking price is actually quite low given the features you get, which include Active Noise Cancellation, high-quality sound, and a long battery life If you need a TWS for work, fitness, or entertainment, the UGreen HiTune X6 is an excellent choice.
